EMPEROR AKUFO-ADDO, THE ARROGANT, IGNORANT, DISRESPECTFUL, AND CLUELESS PRESIDENT OF GHANA

Personally, I’ve got no issues with a man being innocently ignorant of certain things. We are human and can’t know everything.

Trouble arises when an ignorant man mixes his ignorance with a worrisome degree of arrogance and “I know-it-all attitude.

Ghana is not in this current mess simply because our President is thoroughly incompetent. We are where we are today as a result of the fact that we have an arrogant, ignorant, disrespectful and an unreachable old man with some terribly twisted messianic complex as President.

President Akufo-Addo’s biggest problem arises from the fact that he is so arrogant even in his ignorance, with an ego that is terribly too big for him. To make matters worse, he remains unreachable always acting like he knows everything even when he knows very little. He is a son of a former ceremonial President, grandchild of J.B Danquah the famous CIA agent, grandchild of Sir Ofori-Atta and grandchild of the Rev Sampson Amadi. Because of his background, he sees himself as a messiah of some sort, a man sent from heaven to deliver Ghanaians. And it would seem to me that he is under some kind of illusion that he’s the only man who can save Ghana and Ghanaians.

Ghana is gradually gravitating towards an authoritarian state under President Akufo Addo-led administration as the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression is no longer respected. Persons including technocrats and experts who offer free technical advice to the administration are branded anti-government just because their advice or contributions contradicts that of government. The President has confirmed that old “arrogant” tag and will go down in history as the most arrogant President in the history of Ghana.

This was how he described Ghanaians who condemned US-Ghana Military deal:

“Surely, this is the kind of cynical manipulation by reckless self-seekers, which, in the fullness of time, the people of Ghana will acknowledge and condemn.” As if that was not enough, he descended heavily on his fellow politicians on the other side if the divide who condemned deal :

“And how else would we have exposed the unspeakable hypocrisy of the fraternity of some frontline politicians, who make a habit of running with the hares and hunting with the hounds, who secretly wallow in the largesse of the United States of America, whilst, at the same time, promote anti-American sentiments to a populist constituency?”

Instead of using the opportunity to explain why his administration agreed to the military cooperation deal, he used that nice opportunity to display how angry he was, and conduit for transmission of insults to his political opponents.

While the parliamentary committee on the Cash for Seat saga was investigating the matter, the President arrogantly made nonsense the whole investigation with his reckless statement…that because of his over 40 years friendship with a Lebanese business man, Ghanaians should rubbish the Cash for Seat allegation when documented evidence available clearly indicted the President and his ministers. After executing one of his top campaign promises (removal of Charlotte Osei), the President, seeing the anger being expressed across, assured Ghanaians will do extensive consultation to get Ghanaians a perfect replacement. Ghana was thrown into a state of confusion when the President mentioned names of some Npp bias souls as nominees for the position..

Former President Kufour recently advised his party folks not to get power drunk. He gave the advice when the party gathered at Koforidua to elect their national executives. Addressing the delegates, President Akufo Addo once again confirmed the decades old “arrogant” tag when he disrespectfully rubbished Kufour’s advise by describing himself as the captain of the boat ;

“I am the captain of the boat and will not allow anyone to capsize it,”

He spoke childishly as if former president Kufour was usurping his powers. The President personally cleared all appointees who came under investigation over corrupt practices. He prejudiced investigations with his reckless statements.

The latest episode is the introduction of the Dual Intake system. Experts and technocrats including lecturers, former Vice Chancellors and Vice Chancellors have all added their voices to the ongoing discussions and have advised government not to rush the implementation. These experts have appealed to the President to quickly call for a national dialogue on the matter but the President usual of him, will not succumb to this wise counsel. He described these experts as doomsayers and naysayers. The President has confirmed that from September 2018, his government will implement the Dual Intake System. He is acting with same reckless spirit as he did with the implementation of the Free SHS.

The President is using technicalities and relying on the excessive powers conferred on the executive to frustrate the wheel of justice. He has hired a group of brilliant lawyers some from the United Kingdom and South Africa who understand the strength and weakness of system to support his looting agenda. The President and his cousins have become atrociously arrogant as they revel in their above the law status. Confronted by the enormous wealth and the smart legal backing of corrupt president and cousins, the laws of the land have become mere paper tiger and toothless bulldog. Almost all the appointees whose corruption cases were once widely celebrated in the media are now walking free in the society and equally playing vital roles in the administration.

Many Ghanaians including some prominent citizens who supported the President in opposition, have become dispirited and disappointed about the administration’s performance and its corruption fight. The President himself aids corruption. Corruption has become so deeply entrenched in the administration that the law has become helpless to hack it down.

Allegations of fraudulent deals and gross misuse of office by the President, his nephews and cousins have continued to increase . At every stage in the governmental system, one is confronted with unbelievable monumental acts of corruption.

The President sees nothing wrong with appointing his daughter, his in-laws, his cousins, nephews, cronies,in-laws of his Vice and his brothers to serve in his administration. He rubbishes agitations against his family and friends government with praises showering Sermons on his daughter, nephews and cousins. Suddenly some Civil Society Organizations who supported him in 2016, have become his avowed opponents because of their stance on some of his policies.

Mr John Mahama called for a national dialogue on the economy when the country’s economic woes deepened. He heeded to calls by experts and technocrats to organise a national forum on the issue for effective brainstorming. The Senchi economic forum was organised and the administration implemented fully the final recommendation the forum submitted to the President. Mr Mahama took same approach with the single spine salary scheme issue. He allowed persons with the wherewithal to discuss all the inherent technical issues and adhered to recommendations submitted to him.

Look at the Ameri renegotiation deal. A very shameful move, very dirty but the President, his nephew, brother and cousins as arrogantly pursuing it against all odds. A contract the President promised in opposition to scrap if elected President, has become his darling deal and being renegotiated to serve as his pension survival deal. His cousins, nephews and junior brother are those in charge of the renegotiation.
