EC to hold meeting on voters’ register next week

The Electoral Commission (EC) will next week hold an Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to deliberate on the proposals for a new voters register.

Some political parties excluding the CPP and PNC submitted their proposals for a new register on Tuesday.

Other stakeholders, including the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG)  also handed over their proposals.

In an interview with Citi News the Director of Public Affairs of the EC,Christian Owusu Parry said the meeting will amongst others determine when to hold a stakeholder forum after which a decision on the matter will be taken.

“We will have a broader stakeholder consultation to discuss the issue that has been presented to the Commission and after the broader stakeholder consultation, the Commission will take a decision on the matter, whether to replace or not replace to audit the register.

“So until the Commission has received the presentations that have been made today, we are not able to say what the position of the Commission will be on the matter.”

The EC has ahead of its ruling on the issue indicated that its decision will be purely based on the soundness of proposals submitted.

Parties that have so far submitted their proposals are the NPP, NDC, GCPP, among others.
