Dumsor will improve in December – Power Minister

The Power Minister says the current load shedding exercise may see marginal improvement by December 2015.

Dr. Kwabena Donkor said this when he visited the Onyadze Power Generating Plant in the Gomoa East District in the Central Region.

The project is expected to produce 20 megawatts of power when commissioned.

For four years, the country has been battling periodic darkness. The situation has collapsed many businesses and industries.

The Power Minister promised in February this year to resign from his post if the current power crisis persists after December 2015.

During a two-day campaign tour at Tamale last weekend, President John Mahama said the crisis would end before the 2016 general elections after he made several promises to fix the situation.

Joy News’ sources earlier today indicated that the Volta River Authority (VRA) has shut down its thermal plants in Tema due to its inability to purchase crude oil to power the plants.

The company has been unable to access funds from banks to buy the crude.

Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been forced to shed 450 megawatts of power from 6am to 6pm in some parts of Accra today.

Karpower, an emergency power barge from Turkey which is expected to add 225megawatts to the country’s electricity supply is scheduled to arrive in Ghana by next week.

It could take up to ten days after its arrival, before the 225 megawatts of electricity to be generated will be fed into the national grid.
