Dr. Abdulai paying his bills despite Mahama’s intervention

Sources close to Dr. David Abdulai have disclosed to 3news.com that he is paying his medical bills despite being sent to the 37 Military Hospital at the behest of President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Abdulai, who is well known for his over-two-decade philanthropic activities in the Northern Region capital of Tamale, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 thyroid cancer. But his free medical service in Tamale – which has seen the setting up of two health clinics for the poor and destitute – has provoked sympathy for the man nicknamed ‘The Mad Doctor’.

A social media fundraising drive, which began on August 7, resulted in the president ordering the Ghana Air Force to fly the ailing philanthropist from Tamale to Accra for optimal medical care.

Nonetheless, 3news.com’s sources say as of Wednesday night, hospital administrators call on Dr. Abdulai’s family for the payment of some bills. It is not clear what orders the hospital administrators were given by government as regards Dr. Abdulai’s treatment.

Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Victor Bampoe, who had related the president’s gesture in a post on Wednesday, had asked the fundraising campaign to continue despite President Mahama’s intervention.
