Dormaahene Showers Praises On President Mahama

The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area in the Brong Ahafo Region, has praised the achievements of the president, John Dramani Mahama, in the area of basic social amenities dotted across the country.

Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu II, said the president’s quest to provide, especially potable water for Ghanaians, was unprecedented and needed to be applauded by all.

Speaking in Bono, mixed with the English Language he said “No government in our history has given potable water to the Ghanaian people like His Excellency President Mahama has done”.

The respected traditional ruler, who was the special guest of honour for the 21st edition of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards, said this when the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, recently paid a working visit to Dormaa Ahenkro, as part of her outreach programme to provide medical suppliers, to disadvantaged hospitals and other medical facilities, nationwide.

According to the 50-year old chief, though he is well aware that chiefs are barred from indulging in active partisan politics, he could not keep quiet when developmental projects are glaringly visible.

He said, unlike other Ghanaians, who have the platform to speak in the media, especially on radio daily, if he had that great platform, he would enumerate the achievements of President Mahama, who is seeking a second term bid.

“I am aware that chiefs are constitutionally barred from active partisan politics, but where praise is due, I will give it,. If I have the opportunity to be on radio, I will say this without any fear of contradiction”, he said amidst cheers from his kinsmen and other subjects.

President Mahama, has been proud of government’s effort in improving people’s access to portable water. This year, he dedicated parts of his State of the Nation Address in parliament to tout government’s achievement in the water sector.

“Since my last appearance before this august House, a total of 77.5 million gallons of water per day has been added to the national water production stock following the coming on stream of such water projects as the: Kpong Water Expansion Project Phase 1,Kpong Water Intake Rehabilitation Project, Accra-Tema Metropolitan Water Supply Project,Teshie Nungua Water Desalination Project,

He also mentioned that, Nsawam, Essakyir Five Towns, Mampong,Barekese, and other Small Town Water Projects.

According to him, the effect of this intervention is that out of the 10 million or so Ghanaians who were deprived of water, 4 million of them living in hundreds of communities currently have been given access to safe drinking water.

There are many more water projects dotted around the country, which are nearing completion.

These include, the Akim Oda- Akwatia- Winneba,Konongo-Kumawu-Kwahu,Wa,North Tongu, Adaklu Anyigbe, and scores of urban and peri-urban Small Water Projects.

He told Parliament, the completion of these projects, would increase water coverage for our people to about 85 percent, which translate into 7 million, out of the 10 million that were left behind as at 2009.

There are also the West Water Project; the Peri-Urban, Rural and Small Towns Water and Sanitation Project for Brong Ahafo Region and finally, the Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project (SRWSP).
