DKM Micro-finance commenced payment to customers

Long suffering DKM Micro-Finance Customers have now started receiving the monies they lodged with the now liquidated Micro Finance Company.

But many of them with claims above 3500 Ghana Cedis are unhappy as unconfirmed reports say nobody is to be paid more than 3500 Ghana Cedis.

Those with lower claims are however getting all their monies.

The Official Liquidator working on the case early this month posted a list of validated Customers as well as the selected Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) branches where payments were to be made in Sunyani.

True to word, payment processes started to day on schedule in a peaceful manner, amidst tight security.

The Liquidator and the management of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) obviously put much effort in coming up with a good strategy for the payment process.

It started outside the Banking hall and involved Customers of DKM presenting original and photo copies of receipts and ID Cards.

The Customers then entered the Banking Hall, where two specially designated Cashiers served them.

The Plan is to serve 500 customers each day with the exercise expected to end on the 2nd of November this year.

Although Officials of the Liquidator refused comment Radio Ghana learnt from some of the Customers that the maximum payment being made is 3500 Ghana Cedis irrespective of the amount deposited with the Company.

Meanwhile, it is happy times for customers whose deposits are below the maximum payment of 3500 Ghana Cedis as they received all their deposits.

Few affected customers who spoke to Radio Ghana on condition of anonymity expressed their unhappiness about the amounts issued to them.

Some of them claimed to have sums ranging from over a million Ghana Cedis to 6000 Ghana Cedis and could not understand why they should be given just 3,500 Ghana Cedis.

However, most of them were happy about the payment process, saying it is hassle free and fast.

The DKM saga has been topical in Bono-Ahafo for over a year now.

It would be recalled that the Bank of Ghana froze the account of DKM after it was found to have violated the Banking Act.

This led to the locking up of Customers deposits and resultant turmoil for thousands of DKM Customers.

State Institutions like the Bank of Ghana and Ministers have been threatened, attacked and have had curses invoked on them by some irate customers of the Company.

The Nkoranza North and South Districts of the Region still do not have Assembly Members as the people boycotted the District Level Elections in protest over the DKM issue.
