Declare Mahama Winner In 2016 If … – Dr. Baah Tells EC

Head of the Political Science Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako-Baah is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare President Mahama winner of the 2016 elections if it does not change the voters register.

According to him, the lackadaisical attitude of the Commission in responding to calls for a new voters register is sickening.

Dr. Amoako-Baah made the comment on Nhyira FM on Thursday.

According to him, positions by groups and individuals reflect a general feeling of majority of Ghanaians who want the electoral roll replaced.

Dr. Amoako-Baah cited calls by the Catholic Bishops Conference, former President Rawlings and political parties as enough indication of the people’s wish.

The Political Scientist believes a new register will put to rest the doubt in the minds of the opposition parties, especially the New Patriotic Party (NPP), that the electoral roll is bloated to favour the ruling party.

“The EC should declare the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President Mahama as winners of the 2016 election if it is not prepared to change the voters register,” the political scientist stressed.

Dr. Amoako-Baah said he fears Ghana could be plunged into civil war if the current voters register is not changed.

“I don’t see the reason for the delay so if we don’t change it then we are prepared to fight,” he stated.
