Catherine Afeku’s husband causes arrest of NDC Communicator

The husband of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency in the Western Region, Mr. Seth Afeku has caused the arrest of a famous National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) Communications Team Member, Angate Borzar over offensive words.

The NDC’s Communicator has been remanded by the Axim Magistrate Court for one week.

He was remanded by the Court on July 1, 2020 where he failed to present a lawyer for defence.

Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Christian. S. Kwofie told the court that on April 29 and June 26, 2020 respectively, the accused Angate Borzar sat on West End FM, a local radio station in Ellembelle to call the Member of Parliament (MP) for Evaloe-Gwira and Minister of State at the office of the Senior Minister, Mrs. Catherine Ablema Afeku a thief and other unprintable words.

“Angate Borzar, age 25, teacher; you on 29/04/2020 and 24/06/2020 respectively at Axim in the Nzema East Municipality and within the jurisdiction of this court, without law authority, you uttered certain abusive words on a West End Radio programme to wit Catherine is a thief, you brought some white men to Axim and robbed them of their properties, you have earmarked ten thousand us dollars ($10,000) to perform rituals to win political power, among many other provocative words to the annoyance of one Catherine Abelema Afeku and her associates with intent to provoke breach of the peace of whereby a breach of the peace is likely to be occasioned”

According to the Prosecuting Officer, his behaviour is a breach of the Criminal and other offences Act 1960 (Act 29).

The prosecution said his (accused person) behaviour is a breach of the Criminal and other offences Act 1960 (Act 90).

Reactions

Meanwhile the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the area, Mr. Kofi Arko Nokoe has described the arrest and remand of Mr. Borzah as barbaric.

He accused Catherine Afeku of hiding behind her husband to cause the arrest of his Communicator.

According to him, the NDC Communicator was invited by the police to assist them with a certain information and unfortunately when the Communicator got to the station, the police quickly put him behind bars and the following three days, sent him to court without the party’s knowledge and his family.

“My brother my Communicator arrest and remand is a plan thing Catherine Afeku is doing but she should continue to do that”, he fumed.

He also accused Catherine Afeku of intimidating his supporters who are criticising her constructively.

Mr. Kofi Nokoe told this Reporter that Catherine Afeku should stop intimidating his supporters and show them what she had used the MP’s Common Funds to do in the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira.

He pledged to rally behind his Communicator, Angate Borzar who is now on one-week remand for justice.

“I will continue to fight for my hardworking Communicator to get justice, he is on remand because of NDC so we will fight for me. Angate Borzar didn’t use such words on the show but Hon. Catherine Afeku always use incumbency to intimidate people who criticize her over her abysmal performance ever since he becomes our MP”, he emphasized.

“Right now everybody in Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency has seen the behaviour of Catherine Afeku who has done nothing for the Constituents, the only thing she is doing is to intimidate people who criticize her but I want to tell her that whether she likes it or not, the good people of Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira are going to boot her out from power come December 7”, he added.

He concluded, “I will encourage all NDC members and Nananom to remain resolute without fearing Catherine Afeku’s intimidation”.

The Member of Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira NDC, Egya A K. Blay has also accused Catherine Afeku and her teeming supporters of using the media and social media to attack prominent NDC members including their Parliamentary candidate.

“Also on your radio programs (NPP hour) do you, your MCE and goro boys show no restraint as they take such personalities to the cleaners, something for which I have on my phone a library of recordings. Interestingly your husband doesn’t see anything wrong as he has always remained silent”, he stated this in a statement issued and copied this Reporter.

“Ridiculously however, he is quick to loose his guard and run to the police when the ball that you have been kicking hard against others is passed to you in the subtle of manner and that, for just under three months, you have caused the arrest of more than ten constituents with the latest being, the Kontihene of Gwira Ayinasie, Oscar Anaman of Ewoku and the one week jail of Comrade Angatte Borzah this afternoon”, he added.

“Madam MP, have you ever thought about how the situation would have been if Hon Kojo Armah, Awulae Nsein, Awaule Bamiankor, the Chief Fishermen of Axim, Professor Nokoe, Obgame, Hon KAN, Hon Buah, Nana Koomson, Mr Yankah, Dorcas Amoah, the Kontihene of Gwira Ayinasie etc all who have suffered vilifications from you also decided to tow this your path of police intimidation and victimization?”, he quizzed.

Speaking to Mrs. Catherine Afeku, the MP for the area, she said she was not the one who lodged the complaint but added she was focused of helping her party to monitor the on-going registration exercise.

She was quick to direct this Reporter to verify from the police to know who lodged the complaint.

Confirming the person who lodged the complaint, Chief Superintendent Samuel Punobyin, the Axim Police Divisional Commander said the person who lodged the complaint was the husband of Mrs. Catherine Afeku.

He emphasized that the NDC Communicator sat on West End Radio to ruin insults on Catherine Afeku’s person.

He disclosed that when they arrested the NDC Communicator, the NDC Communicator admitted that he indeed used the above offensive words against Catherine Afeku.

He said the NDC Communicator was to re-appear before the court on Tuesday.

He, therefore, seized the opportunity to urge the media not to allow politicians and party Communicators to use their platforms to attack innocent people in this year’s Election.
