BOST BOSS MUST BE CAUSED TO STEP ASIDE AND PAVE WAY FOR INVESTIGATIONS INTO SALE OF COMTANINATED FUEL – GOVERNANCE WATCH

We are becoming a bit uncomfortable with the phenomenon that had gradually been established in our jurisdiction where public officials who are under investigations find it uneasy to relinquish their positions over a period under which they are under investigations.

In other jurisdictions, public officials are at no difficulty in stepping aside to pave way for effective investigations into matters involving their conduct.

We want Ghana’s public officials and for that matter, Africa to gravitate towards best practices by adopting willingly, the spirit and boldness to step aside to allow investigations into allegations of misconduct.

In this spirit, we would have thought that the Akufo-Addo’s government, being headed by a human rights lawyer, would be at no difficulty in acting in a manner that will uphold the integrity of legal processes.

The head of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport, Mr. Alfred Obeng ought to by now, have resigned his position as Managing Director of the company as soon as investigation process was instituted against him.

That not withstanding, having failed to voluntarily resign his position, we call on the appointing authority, and in this case, the President, Mr. Akufo-Addo, to act on him by causing him to step aside immediately to pave way for a successful investigation without any possibility of hindering the evidence gathering process that would lay to bare, the processes that led to the sale of the alleged contaminated fuel to Movenpiina.

We must, as a nation, be gravitating towards best practices in order to restore some hope in our governance process.
