The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party Sammi Awuku is reported to have emitted a ‘bombshell’ on Sunday 7th August 2016, at the campaign launch of Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central Honorable Henry Quartey in Alajo.
Speaking with a number of youths clad in the party’s color and present at the venue for the campaign launch, Sammi Awuku stated that “nothing good seems to be happening currently within the party. Money to even print posters is a problem to us. I have submitted my budget since March this year but nobody is saying anything to me. Few hours ago, there was an elections conference in Tamale for Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG ) and we have a stake in that elections because it was a key in strengthening our influence at the tertiary level so the need for us to win some positions in other to achieve that influence . But even with this, there was no means available as the party’s account according to the National Treasure did not have enough balance for it to be spent on Tertiary elections. Last year, some UK groups sent me Jerseys and I together with my deputy, Salam Mustapha, went and donated it to some youth groups in Volta region.”
“The campaign team is rather receiving donations from sponsors instead of the party because Nana Akufo-Addo Freddy Blay and Abankwa Yeboah have issues with trust among the three of them, with respect to money. Just recently when Nana Akufo-Addo launched the “Ketewa Biara Nswa” recharge cards at the party headquarters , the sales made on that day which is closer to Ghc 80,000 cannot be accounted for. We don’t know where Freddy Blay ,Nana Akufo-Addo and Abankwa have taken the money to. John Boadu and myself have to rely on other sources in other to raise money to run operations from the Kokomlele office”, an infuriated Awuku added
Sammi Awuku blamed the family of Akufo-Addo for Making the party unattractive as he stated “the rate at which Ken Ofori-Atta, Edward Bumpty and Gabby Okyere Darko all of Nana Akufo-Addo’s family, are managing things within the party is unfair. Ken Ofori-Atta is the one meeting businessmen in Ghana and abroad and we know of the contribution they are making to the party. Some are our friends and they keep telling us what their contributions are. Everyday there is fundraising in the U.K. but we have never had the opportunity to see where the monies go and of what purpose. Mahama is messing this country but the NPP is becoming unattractive to the floating voters which calls for concern”
The National Youth Organiser Sammi Awuku further questioned the paltry Ghc 1,000 given to all constituencies for the Ten days registration exercise “the Ghc 1,000 that Nana Akufo-Addo has given to all constituencies for the purposes of monitoring the just ended Voter Registration Exhibition exercise is not enough. Even Paul Afoko who we all know did no wrong to merit this bad treatment from Nana Akufo-Addo against him, gave all constituencies a huge sum of Ghc 10,000 each. The monitoring exercise is 10 days and how do they want a whole constituency with more than sixty (60) polling stations to spend this small Ghc 1000 in ten days? ”
