Asokore-Mampong MCE nominee rejected by assembly members

President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the Asokore-Mampong Municipal Chief Executive has been rejected by Assembly Members.

The nominee, Alhaji Alidu Seidu, failed to secure two-thirds of the vote cast.
He had seven of the 15 Assembly Members voting for him while eight voted against him.

The vote also meant that he fell short of getting 50 percent of the vote cast to trigger a second round of voting.

The president would have to re-nominate him for another voting to take place or nominate a new person for the position.

The rejection of the Mr Seidu follows a nationwide resistance to some of the president’s nominee for MMDCEs.

Prior to the voting, there was intense lobbying by the Ashanti Region Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, for the Assembly Members to endorse the president’s nominee.
