Ashanti NPP suspends chairman for threatening Akufo-Addo

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended its chairman for the Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region over some remarks he made against the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The suspended chairman, Joseph Danso is said to have made the comments which have been deemed as a threatening against President Akufo-Addo over the nomination of a District Chief Executive.

“Should Akufo-Addo nominate someone as the DCE for Sekyere Kumawu against my will, the repercussions would be dire, and that the Kumawu Township will be set upside-down,” Mr Danso is reported to have been heard on tape saying.

His comments sparked a series of agitations from the some of the party’s supporters in the Kumawu constituency who felt their chairman’s behaviour had brought the hard-earned reputation of the NPP into disrepute for him to resign.

At its sitting last Saturday, the party’s regional disciplinary committee chaired by Dr. Amoako Tuffour decided to suspend the embattled constituency chairman after he refused to apologise for his comments when he was given the opportunity to do so before the committee.

However, reports gathered by Starr News indicate that Mr. Danso rather clandestinely met the President to ask for forgiveness.

A source who spoke to Starr News also stated that a planned demonstration against the DCE of Kumawu was foiled by the party.
