Anas’ judicial exposé triggers body searches

The Ghana Integrity Initiative, GII, is demanding that government comes clear on policy that allows state agencies to subject visitors to body searches.

The Executive Secretary of GII, Vitus Azeem says the practice is not proper and “should be stopped”.

Although he refused to mention the names of institutions that engage in the practice, Vitus said the move is to prevent people from recording incidents that happen there.

This comes at the back of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ exposé on judicial corruption.

According to Vitus Azeem, securities of some government institutions search people to find out what they carry with them before they allow them entry.

“If it is a government policy that it should be done, it should come out and say it and tell us why it should be done”, he said

Meanwhile, the GII has launched a web-based platform that encourages citizens to report acts of bribery in their various endeavours.
