AN INTERESTING SLIP OF TONGUE, MR. NAABU -ASK

A very serious issue has been reduced rather unsuccessfully by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the damning revelations by the Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Bugri Naabu.

As daunting as the task is, the party and its followers have adopted a rather interesting disposition in an attempt to belittle the ramifications of the comments made by the chairman.

What appears interesting in this rather damning revelation is that when same cases were made against others, it is the truth, but when it is about the party NPP and individuals within it, it cannot be said to be the truth.

Not too long ago, and a couple of days before the 2016 elections, Mr. Bugri Naabu held a high-level press conference with the backing of the current Information Ministry, Mustapha Hameed then a spokesperson to flag bearer Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo in which he told the entire world that he was bribed with a FOUR-WHEEL drive by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

At the time, even though the Mahamas admitted their closeness to the Naabu family of the Northern Region, and denied knowledge of the allegations and stated that they never gave nor bribed Mr. Naabu, the entire NPP machinery headed by Mustapha Hameed who was not a party to the bribe, told the world to accept the words of Mr. Naabu as the truth and nothing but the simple truth.

Interesting enough, one can conclude that Ghanaians bought into the allegations and voted against John Dramani Mahama, while rewarding the NPP on the back of a campaigned waged on lies. However, we were made to believe Mr. Naabu says nothing except the truth.

On the flip, is it not interesting that Mr. Bugri Naabu gleefully rejected a FOUR-WHEEL drive and painfully admit goats and guinea fowls as bribe for positions in the NPP. A very interesting character up for discussion.

It would be of great interest to readers, that the said Bugri Naabu, prior to the expulsion of Mr. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong, was leaked in a tape recording in which he hinted the likely outcome of the machinations within the New Patriotic Party. The party denied it, and even forced Bugri Naabu to deny knowledge of the voice and to dissociate himself from it. In the end, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong got sacked in addition to Mr. Sammy Crabbe, affirming eventually, the content of the tape recording that Bugri Naabu denied.

Per the standards of the New Patriotic Party, and not by the standard of any other person, Mr. Bugri Naabu can only be a political Saint who says nothing untruthful. How come then, that a man who was a preacher of the gospel, has become such a liability buried in the belly of lies? That cannot be, except the same group admits that all his positions in the past against others, came from the same lies of an individual, Mr. Bugri Naabu.

To claim a slip of tongue, is to assume all who listened to him are below his level of appreciation of issues. This issue of the murder of Chairman Adams, had been on the lips of many, including Gregory Afoko, that the young man being held in police custody, is innocent of the allegations made against him for which he is standing trial.

How come that the slip of Bugri Naabu virtually confirmed a perception of a section of Ghanaians on the innocence of Gregory and raises the issue that powerful hands other than Gregory were behind the murder of Chairman Adams? This is an interesting slip. A slip that apparently laid to bare, an issue of interest of which a young man is standing trial which he and his family including others denied knowledge of his involvement.

And, how come, that Mr. Bugri Naabu could slip this heavily and mention two other names in addition to Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba? Isn’t this an interesting case that we all must demand a critical investigation into?

Again, for the purpose of good governance, it would be appropriate to appreciate this matter beyond the mere claim of slip especially that the name of a minister of state Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba has been implicated in this damning revelation.

Even if the president would fail to act on this matter, the name and integrity of Otiko must be one of paramounce to her. Without anyone taking any action to cause this matter to be investigated, she must be interested in getting this matter probed to establish the truth or otherwise and in this case, he innocence on the matter.

Completely disregarding this issue and assuming a deaf ear on it would never clear the public’s perception about her persona and her involvement in this controversial case before the courts.

I think that the lawyers of the young man standing trial over this murder case, must take very keen interest in this allegations and proceed to imbibe this in their evidence in his defence in ensuring that justice is not only served to their client, but must be seen to have manifestly been done to him.

And the president, I cannot be convinced that as a lawyer, he was guided by law in merely admitting slip from Mr. Bugri Naabu. I am in no doubt that his superior consideration was for the interest of the party he belongs and not in the interest of the larger Gahaian public.
