The Eastern Regional Minister Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour has described the free SHS policy of the Akufo-Addo administration as “not totally free”.
The Minister was speaking as a guest at a programme organised by “Children Right International” in Koforidua. According to the Minister the Free SHS policy to be introduced formally by the Akufo-Addo Governmen this September, is not going to be completely free as being anticipated by parents.
Provision of Free education doesn’t mean students will not pay any fee or other contributions that were being provided by parents or guardians before the release of the new circular. According the Eastern Regional Minister, “there is no free lunch anywhere..By all means there would be attachments”
The Minister narrated how he enjoyed “true” free education from the 6th to the University including facilities such as book allowance, nutritious meals etc.
According to the Minister, the current policy introduced by his government, cannot be described as “free” in its truest sense.
