Akufo-Addo picks Akoto Ampaw for Special Prosecutor role

Renowned private legal practitioner, Akoto Ampaw has been chosen for the position of Independent or Special Prosecutor.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to set up the Special Prosecutor’s Officeby the end of 2017 to prosecute corruption among public officials.

Shedding more light on who he was going to chose as the Independent Prosecutor stated that the “person is going to be somebody who commands respect of the society and at the same time has an independent mind to make the decisions.”

Mr Ampaw, a partner of Akufo-Addo’s law firm, Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co., who is widely respected for defending media freedom over the years caught the eye of the President and has reportedly “accepted the post” pending the processes in setting up the office.

“His knowledge in law is deep and has defended many people in court over human rights abuses”, starrfmonline.com reported.
