AKUFO-ADDO, JEAN MENSAH PLAN TO RIG 2020 ELECTIONS EXPOSED

Plans by the Chairperson of the EC Madam Jean Mensah and President Akufo-Addo to rig the 2020 election has been unearthed by the opposition party’s. Madam Jean Mensah and President Akufo-Addo have perfected plans to rig the 2020 elections particularly the Presidential poll to favour Nana Akufo-Addo and the Npp.

In a communique released by the EC after its meeting with the parties, the EC stated that the commission will compile a new voters register ahead of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Checks revealed that no such decision was taken by IPAC at the meeting. Compilation of a new voters register at this time is premature, backward and dangerous to our democracy.

The communique also touched on limited Registration. The commission in the communique stated that it will undertake limited registration of new voters prior to the District level elections and referendum in May 2019. The communique states that the limited Registration will take place in the District offices of the Electoral Commission.

According to the minority parties, conducting limited registration at the District level will disenfranchise a lot of eligible voters. According to the parties, by convention, limited Registration is always done at the Electoral area level to afford all eligible persons the opportunity to register.

Our checks revealed that no decision was taken on the compilation of a new register at the meeting.

Dr Eugene Asiedu Afram a political science lecturer and an election(s) expert suggested measures that should be taken against the EC and people aiding and abetting rigging such as removal from office and taking them to the International Criminal Court (ICC) if violence emanates from their action or inaction. He said, he personally have serious doubt about the present EC’s integrity, impartiality and competence to conduct a free, fair and credible election. He said the joke about the current electoral commission would seem real and it is up to the parties and Ghanaians to ensure that the redline is not crossed in safeguarding our fledgling democracy. And if crossed, appropriate measures and actions must be taken not to allow our democracy to be derailed.

According to the political science lecturer, the rigging plot also involves spending huge sums of money on police personnel and election officials in many parts of the country. The EC officials and leaders of the ruling party have been working on this agenda for a while and have consciously been raising all sorts of baseless allegations against the opposition and weakening state institutions in order to divert attention from their devious agenda and create conducive environment for their activities.

The EC failed abysmally in all the elections it conducted after the 2016 election. The referendum was openly rigged and the violence, rigging and silliness recorded at the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye election is unprecedented in the history of the fourth republic.
