The outspoken Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Ningo-Prampam Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Sam Nartey George, has levelled accusations against President Akufo-Addo, alleging that he has been the primary beneficiary of political violence since the establishment of the 1992 Constitutional dispensation.
According to Mr George, it was only during President Akufo-Addo’s tenure that the nation witnessed the loss of eight innocent lives in an election and the shooting of innocent people in a by-election.
He specifically pointed to instances such as the violence unleashed by armed military personnel on innocent civilians as a blight on the integrity of the election won by the president in 2020
According to him, these were carefully executed events in Ayawaso West-Wuogon Constituency and Techiman South in the Bono Region.
Mr George emphasised that the responsibility for these incidents rests squarely on the shoulders of the president, stating that the cries of the victims’ families will forever be associated with him.
He drew attention to the biblical concept of the sins of the fathers being visited upon the children up to the seventh generation.
Remarkably, Mr George criticised President Akufo-Addo for not expressing empathy towards the families of the deceased, contrasting this with the president’s prompt expressions of sympathy for similar situations abroad.
The Ningo-Prampam legislator made these allegations during his address on the fifth-anniversary commemoration of the Ayawaso West-Wougon by-election mayhem in Accra.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, Mr George highlighted that this marked the first instance of uniformed men causing chaos among innocent voters, despite previous incidents involving macho men snatching ballot boxes, among other electoral malpractices in the country
