Akufo-Addo has led NPP for 3 consecutive times, why shouldn’t Mahama lead NDC? – Lecturer quizzes

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, Dr Kobby Mensah has wondered why members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been questioning why John Mahama is still leading the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when President Akufo-Addo has led the NPP for three consecutive times.

Dr Mensah, in a tweet, noted that President Akufo-Addo has been the leader and flagbearer of the NPP yet its members keep asking why John Mahama of the NDC is coming again.

President Akufo-Addo has been the leader and flagbearer of the NPP since 2007 when he won the Presidential primaries for the first time. By contrast, John Mahama became leader of the NDC in 2012 upon the demise of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

Some NPP members have repeatedly wondered why John Mahama after serving as President wants to be President again.

Last weekend, President Akufo-Addo said the erstwhile Mahama government cannot be compared to his in any way.

He stated that comparing Mahama’s administration to his was like comparing chalk to cheese.

“Comparing my administration to that of Mahama is like chalk and cheese, there’s no semblance…You shouldn’t worry me with things that will disturb my peace. His administration is the worst government the country has ever experienced in the last thirty years,” the President told Wontumi Radio.

“Leave him. We are in an election year so he needs to say something and that’s what he is doing…I am confident that on December 7, the verdict will vindicate my hard work and the good works of this administration.”
