Akufo-Addo gambling with economy, why tell us to wait on Ofori-Atta’s sacking – PV Jantuah

October 27, 2022

Former government appointee under John Dramani Mahama’s administration, PV Dadson Boateng Jantuah believes President Akufo-Addo is not that astute a politician as has been touted by sections of Ghanaians and the ruling New Patriotic party (NPP).

He is shocked that President Akufo-Addo has not sacked half of his non-performing ministers, especially the Finance Minister when the ground is fertile for him to do so after several calls from Ghanaians.

Speaking on Ultimate 106.9 FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Jantuah wondered why the president would ask for time for Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to conclude Ghana’s IMF negotiations before his sacking or any other decision.

President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday asked for more time for the embattled Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to conclude negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before any talks of resignation is heeded to after 80 MPs of the ruling NPP pushed for a vote of no confidence in the Minister.

Mr. Jantuah believes the President’s delay in taking action is a clear testament of his cluelessness in politics.

“With the greatest of respect His Excellency the President, our president doesn’t understand what ken Ofori Atta is doing”

“I am surprised the President holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and he doesn’t understand what is going on, because if he really understands what it takes to run an economy he shouldn’t have entertained Ofori Atta up till this time. Here is a Finance Minister and what he knows is to borrow without recourse to repayment, is that how we run an economy” he said

“In the maiden state of the nation address he said if they honor statutory payment and emolument plus amortization there is no fiscal space left, so what do you have to do, create the fiscal space first before you add expenditure, but from the get go they keep add expenditure without knowing where the money is going to come from?” he questioned.

“And if you have a finance minister who will superintend over an activity like this, then he is not fir for purpose”

Mr. Jantuah says the Finance minister is a failure and should have been relieved of his position long ago.

“The Finance minister Ken Ofori Atta has done almost everything wrong. All that Ken Ofori Atta know is to go and borrow, everything we should go and borrow, meanwhile you are unable to raise revenue. So how are you going to pay your debt?. All the reasons he has assigned for borrowing is to pay maturing debt and interest rate. The President is just gambling with the economy and with Ken, his sacking is long overdue. Ken’s background of investment banking, is his problem, corporate financing is different from managing the finances of state. I am for an accountant’s being appointed as finance ministers because, every accountant wants his books balanced, look at Baah Wiredu, look at Seth Tepkpe . f you bring any new expenditure you have to go and look for the money”, he argued.
