Aftermath of NDC primaries: Party sets up reconciliation committee

In an attempt to iron-out differences in the party arising-out of its recent parliamentary primaries, the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set-up a conflict resolution committee headed by a former General Secretary, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya.

The party is also expected to review the decision of the Greater Accra regional executives to suspend parliamentary nominee for Ningo Prampram, Sam George and the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale.

The two were suspended for accusing the party’s regional executives of manipulating the elections to cause their defeat although they both turned out victorious at the end of the voting.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, director of research of the NDC, Dr. William Ahadzie said the committee is expected to mend fences ahead of the 2016 elections.

“As we are saying, we like to mend fences and get those experienced hands who lost to come back and share their experiences with the new ones.

“The party itself has virtually completed the exercise of setting up a peace and reconciliation committee which will be going to the constituencies. This is because we have a bigger election to fight. This is just an in-house fight to get the one who would go and unseat all the NPP parliamentarians,” he explained.

Meanwhile, a Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, George Lawson is insisting the decision by the Greater Accra Regional Executives to suspend the two parliamentary nominees was wrong.

“The discipline of any member shall be exercised by the respective executives of the party at the various levels on the recommendation of the disciplinary committee at that level. It goes on to say that an executive committee at each level may suspend a member of period exceeding six months if in its opinion; such opinion is in the interest of the party. We ask, is it in the interest of the party? It’s not.

“At this crucial time, look at how suspension has brought about confusion in the NPP, and is that what they want?” he argued.
