The member of parliament for Effutu in the Central region has donated 20 Hyundai buses to some drivers in the Winneba area to facilitate their work.
The buses which was handed to the GPRTU to be handed to the drivers according to the MP forms part of his strategy to create more job opportunities in the area to reduce the unemployment situation in the area.
Taxi drivers in the area are not left out of the donations as they will also benefit from a credit facility that will make available unto them saloon cars for their businesses.
Other artisans such as the hairdressers, barbers, dress makers also benefitted from donation .
15 hairderssers were given head dryers, 20 barbers benefited from sterilisers while those in the sewing industry benefit from sewing and state-of-the-art cloth designing machines.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Afenyo Markin urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the machines so that it lasts longer in bringing about improvement in their profession and ultimately reducing poverty in the area.
He also urged the people to adopt healthy lifestyles that will not bring about the needed peace and development that they need in their lives.
One of such healthy lifestyles he explained is resorting to Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR) strategies in addressing disputes rather than rampant resorting to the police to seek redress.
The police, he added in the process of addressing such matters demand some monies the people causing them to lose the little they have on them.
He admonished them to make use of the ADR centres in the town as ADR is not only cheaper but efficient means of addressing disputes.
Hon. Afenyo Markin also bemoaned the neglect of the Winneba community by authorities at the University of Education, Winneba.
The university, he explained has failed in their social responsibility to the community as no single project has been initiated in the town by the university to address challenges of the indegenes despite donating the land on which the university is sited.
The university, he explained for instance ignores the indigenes when it comes to jobs preferring to offer it to their family members and outsiders.
