Presidential candidate and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has thrown more light on who Adam Smith was, and why he was seen as the ‘father of economics’, whose name Hon. Issac Adongo mentioned a multiple times during his presentation at a lecture on the performance of Ghana’s economy.
To many, Mr. Adongo was being sarcastic about the Adam Smith tag on Dr. Bawumia, when he kept referring to him as “Walewale Adams Smith” in his presentation.
It is however believed that, the NDC 2020 presidential candidate was only trying to stoke fire, by emphasizing the words of the Bolga Central member of parliament.
I want to – first thank Hon. Isaac Adongo for his exposition on Adam Smith Economy. There are many who do not know Adam Smith, he was a renowned economist. And for those of us who studied economics at the sixth form level and o level, one of – the introduction to economics talks about economic theories of the past, former president Mahama said.
And Adam Smith was one of the foremost of them. And when he kept saying Adam Smith, he was referring to somebody who lived before. And he happened to be a known economist who had propounded several theories, he added.
When asked if he was talking about the “Walewale Adam Smith”, as mentioned severally by Hon. Issac Adongo;

Mr. Mahama however used the platform to Al’s thank organizers of the event who are former appointees of his government, known currently as, Coalition for Restoration.
