Ablekuma Central NDC Youth Organizer suspended

29th December 2022

The National Democratic Congress (NDC)

Constituency Executives Committee (CEC) of the Ablekuma Central in the Greater Accra Region has suspended the Youth Organizer, Mr. Edwin Elikem Amenyeawu for what the Committee described as misconduct

towards party leadership in the discharge of his duties.

The Constituency Executives Committee together with Ward Coordinators at its emergency meeting on December 26, 2022 unanimously resolved that

Mr Edwin Elikem Amenyeawu, aka Priceless be suspended for six (6) months.

At a close door meeting held on 23rd December with Priceless, in the presence of the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Hon. Ni Ashie Moore, who chaired the meeting, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Hon. Abdul Latif Dan, the Deputy Regional Organizer, Hon Gambo Zam-atu, Constituency Secretary Maiga Sumaila, among others advised the suspended Youth Organizer to hold on with any youth meeting until he follows the due process of securing approval for youth activities.

According to sources at the meeting, he displayed gross disrespect towards the leadership as he continuously shook his head in mockery and sarcastically laughed at them as he was being addressed.

Numerous attempts by the Regional Chairman to call him to order proved futile as he continued with his contemptuous behaviour.

At the end of the meeting, even though he agreed not to go ahead with the program until he had gone through the right procedure as recommended at the meeting, Mr. Amenyeawu still went ahead with the youth meeting on Saturday, December 24.

Several attempts were made to put the program on hold yet he continued with the event with the immediate past Constituency Executives in attendance.

This gesture, according to the Committee amount to gross disrespect to the current party leadership hence the need for his suspension.

The Greater Accra Regional Deputy Organiser, Hon. Gambo Zamatu, at the meeting, cited the fact that when he was Constituency Organizer, the current Chairman, Hon. Solomon Amoo, who was then the youth Organizer attempted to organise a program using his personal letterhead but was stopped.

Mr. Solomon Amoo adhered, duly apologized and was granted approval for a later date when he used the right letterhead.

Hon. Gambo also cited another incident in his second term as Constituency Organizer, when Ali Bello as youth organizer also organized a program at the local government without the knowledge of CEC but was equally stopped.

Relating to the just-ended youth meeting, Hon.

Gambo said he personally intervened to know why the program was still going on even after a resolution not to hold the program.

The suspended Youth Organizer claimed he had consulted key stakeholders including his immediate bosses to go ahead with the program which according to the CEC was not true as the Committee and other key stakeholders were unaware of the new developments.

Also according to the CECs, the Youth Organizer has failed to attend Organizers’ meetings more three (3) occasions.

It was also established that the suspended Youth Organizer, organized Visa lotteries in the name of the party without the knowledge of the party leadership.

On 2nd December, he again organized to show the Ghana vrs Uruguay football match on a giant screen at Town Council Line. He notified the organizers at the last minute when he had already planned the activity and circulated flyers. Despite this infraction, the Hon. MP supported him with GH$1,000. All these actions were overlooked by leadership with the hope that he will do the needful in subsequent events.

Unfortunately, the tempering of justice with mercy has not yielded any dividends. Based on the above occurrences, CEC unanimously resolved to suspend Mr Edwin Elikem Amenyeawu, Youth Organizer for six (6) months with immediate effect. He would also be referred to the interim Constituency Disciplinary Committee as per NDC Constitution.
