The Joint Transition team to oversee the handing over by President Akufo-Addo to President-elect John Mahama has been inaugurated.
The short inauguration ceremony happened at the Accra International Conference Centre on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
During the state ceremony, President Akufo-Addo extended the handing over notes to the President-elect, John Mahama while assuring that he will ensure the smooth transfer of power to the next government.
“I like to assure both of them (President elect and Vice President elect) of the full support of my government and myself of an effective transition and wish them luck and God’s blessing in the discharge of their high responsibilities,” President Akufo- Addo noted.
The transition processes are firmly grounded in the Presidential Transition Act of 2012, Act 845 which provides the legal framework for an orderly and transparent transition.
In his speech, the President-elect John Mahama justified the competence of his selected members on the joint Transitional team and expressed confidence in them to expeditiously deliver in accordance with law.
“We pray that the members of the joint transitional team will work within the confines of the law to fulfill the wishes of the Ghanaian people as expressed on the December 7,”
“I wish to ask that we all be guided by the spirit of the Presidential Transition Act to ensure smooth and seamless transition, we may belong to different political parties, but we all belong to one Ghana,” Mahama emphasised.
John Mahama urged members of the Transition team to put the nation first in the discharge of their duties.
The Transition team is expected to in the subsequent days engage in meetings to plan the transitioning process and ensure a seamless transition to the next government.
