4. NDCDecides : Upper East NDC suspends vetting results of Chiana-Paga Constituency

The Upper East Regional executives of the governing NDC have withheld vetting results for parliamentary aspirants in the Chiana-Paga Constituency pending investigations against one of the three aspirants.

The decision followed the numerous petitions presented to the vetting committee by some party loyalists calling for a suspension of the process to allow investigations.

Although the Deputy Regional Secretary, Thomas Abiola could not explain to Citi News the rationale behind the petitions, he was hopeful the results will be released soon.

“We had some problems with the candidate as there were too many petitions so we decided to withhold it until further investigations,
“We are withholding their results for now but we will release them very soon,” he said.

According to Thomas Abiola, 45 out of the 47 have been vetted. The remaining two included the Minister of Interior, Mark Woyongo who was out of the country on an official assignment and another candidate, Lawyer Peter Adeleweh Kaba who withdrew from the race.

Meanwhile vetting for aspirants in the Eastern region is expected to be concluded by close of day on Wednesday.
Speaking to Citi News, the Regional Secretary, Oliver Kevor described the process as going on smoothly.

Although there were similar petitions presented in a bid to delay the process, Oliver Kevor adds that the executives were able to address the concerns raised by the agitated members.

70 candidates from 23 constituencies had been granted provisional clearance as at Tuesday, September 22.
