The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has sworn in the Governors of the Bank of Ghana.
The short ceremony took place at the seat of government, Jubilee House in Accra.
The ceremony legitimized their appointment and means they can start to work to ensure Ghana’s financial sector is in good shape.
Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama was nominated by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama before the Council of State was put together.
The Minority in Parliament had problems with his nomination because he had been tried in court and would not look good for Ghana internationally.
However, the government defended his nomination.
Dr. Zakari Mumuni was nominated as the First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He will replace Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari as the first Deputy Governor of BoG.
Speaking at the short event, President John Dramani Maham said “With Dr. Asiama heading the Bank of Ghana, I am confident that we will rebuild trust in the institution, we will restore stability and put our economy back on the path of sustained growth.
“With Dr. Asiama heading the Bank of Ghana, I am confident that we will rebuild trust in the institution, we will restore stability and put our economy back on the path of sustained growth.
“I entrust him with this responsibility knowing that he will serve with due diligence and excellency,” the President stated.
“I am confident in your expertise, vision and integrity to discharge your mandate with excellence,” the President said as he congratulated the Governors.
