Following directives from the Chief of Staff to all heads of government institutions regarding the provision of payroll information to address last-minute recruitment anomalies, it is emerging that the CEO of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Mr. Ebenezer Essienyi, is allegedly engaging in fraudulent practices. Our intel indicates that Mr. Essienyi has been backdating the appointments of newly recruited staff to October and November 2024 to create the false impression that no recent recruitment has taken place.
This action is not only deceptive but also constitutes a breach of integrity and potentially criminal behavior. Such conduct undermines the core values of GRIDCo, including its commitment to integrity, as stated on the company’s website. Allowing Mr. Essienyi to remain in his position risks eroding the trust of stakeholders and service providers, which is critical for the company’s role in managing the power sector’s infrastructure and operations.
Furthermore, it has been reported that 76 new recruits, whose appointments have been backdated, have already been assigned to their respective departments without undergoing the standard training protocols. Unlike previous recruits who received at least six months of soft skills and technical training, these new employees were deployed immediately. This decision raises significant safety and operational concerns, jeopardizing GRIDCo’s effectiveness and the stability of the energy sector.
Given the gravity of these allegations, it is important that the Chief of Staff, the Minister of Energy and Green Transitions, cause an urgent investigation into the actions of Mr. Essienyi, alongside those of the Human Resources Director. This investigation should aim to restore confidence in GRIDCo’s operations and ensure accountability.
To safeguard the integrity and future of GRIDCo, it is strongly recommend the immediate removal of Mr. Ebenezer Essienyi from office pending the outcome of investigations. The energy sector’s critical infrastructure demands transparent and trustworthy leadership to maintain the trust of all stakeholders.
It is also emerging that Ing. Ebenezer Essienyi is pushing for one Ing. Mark Awuah Baah, an NPP sympathizer to step into his shoes and cover his tracks.
