Mahama Accuses Akufo-Addo Government of Withholding Presidential Benefits for Eight Years
Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused the Akufo-Addo-led government of failing to provide him with his constitutionally mandated presidential benefits for the past eight years.
In an exclusive interview with TV3, Monitored by Ghanapoliticsonline.com, Mr. Mahama disclosed that he has been personally covering his electricity, water, fuel, and other expenses, despite claims by government officials that all benefits due him have been honored.
“I have been paying for these services myself. The government has not fulfilled its obligations to me,” he stated.
The former president further revealed that he has not received any ex gratia payments from the New Patriotic Party (NPP)-led administration since leaving office. According to Mr. Mahama, the only payment he has received was salary arrears totaling approximately GH₵230,000.
“I have my bank statements to prove this,” he said, adding that he is prepared to present the evidence to a group of journalists for verification.
This development raises questions about the adherence to constitutional provisions regarding the benefits of former presidents in Ghana.
