The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the vandalism of state properties and lawless acts reported in various parts of the country following the December 7 elections.
In a press statement issued on December 9, 2024, and Signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party expressed dismay over the incidents, which were attributed to both disgruntled New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and overzealous NDC supporters.
The NDC accused some NPP supporters of vandalism and looting, claiming they acted out of frustration over allegations that their party candidates hoarded state-procured items, such as food and fertilizers, intended to be distributed as part of voter inducement strategies.
The statement also noted that some NDC supporters, overly excited by the party’s electoral victory, were involved in acts of destruction.
The party emphasised its firm stance against lawlessness and urged all Ghanaians, including its supporters, to exercise restraint and celebrate responsibly.
“The vandalism of state property, mob justice, and any form of lawless retribution… will not be countenanced by the Ghana Police Service,” the statement read.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding peace and the rule of law as the country transitions to the incoming government, led by President-Elect John Dramani Mahama.
The party appealed to its supporters across all 16 regions to remain calm and allow due process to address grievances.
