2020 Election Petition: NPP uses, dumps competent Phillip Addison

Outspoken Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo is questioning if the New Patriotic Party(NPP), can gather courage to engage Lawyer Phillip Addison for his legal shrewdness as the National Democratic Congress(NDC) heads to court in some few hours to challenge the outcome of the 2020 Polls.

According to him, even though Mr. Addison had sacrificed greatly for the NPP, he has rather received in return, bad treatment from President Akufo-Addo and the entire elephant fraternity.

Professor Gyampo, who took to his Facebook wall on Monday, December 28 said Lawyer Addison had in 2013, proved beyond doubt that his legal astuteness and dexterity could be a veritable tool the NPP will need as they face the legal luminaries from the NDC at the apex court of the land.

“Will the fierce and competent Philip Addison be there for the NPP this time?” Mr.Gyampo questioned.

The University Professor said he has cited a list of legal brains that would represent the leader of the NDC, John Mahama and the party and he was wondering if a great legal hand like Phillip Addison could save the NPP in the coming days despite bad treatment meted to him.

“Dude wasn’t fairly treated after his fantastic service to the NPP in the 2013 Election Petition at the Supreme Court. His grasp of the law and probing questions were both tremendous and fascinating!” Professor Gyampo stated.

The NDC has rejected the outcome of the 2020 Presidential and some Parliamentary results as declared by Jean Mensa on December 9. The party’s Flagbearer has since described the outcome as “fictional” and which must be treated with contempt.

There have been a litany of protests involving members of the party including the Minority in Parliament as part of efforts to getting the Electoral Commission to do the needful; auditing the results and declaring the rightful winner of the Presidential Polls.

The party said it will formally challenge in court, the outcome of the 2020 Elections on or before Wednesday, December 30.

So far, a list of accomplished lawyers is circulating on Social Media as members to represent John Mahama and the NDC. They include but not limited the venerable Tsatstu Tsikata, Tony Lithur, Kojoga Adawudu, Dr. Basit Bamba, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe and Abraham Amaliba.

It remains to be seen, which team of lawyers will represent President Akufo-Addo and the governing party.
