A 10-member ministerial committee formed to fight ‘galamsey’- Environment Minister

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Peter Amewu, has stated that government has formed a ministerial committee to fight the ‘galamsey’ menace in the country. A ten-member ministerial committee includes, National Security, Ministry of the Interior, Lands and Natural Resources, Ministry of Water and Sanitation as well as Ministry of Environment Science, Technology and Innovation.

The Minister announced this at the launch of a Media Coalition Against Galamsey in Accra.

speaking at the event he said the committee will have 5 years to complete their task of dealing with the illicit mining.

According to him the project will come with a tracking system that will detect any earth moving equipment working at any particular time.

“The sustainable aspect of it is what is going to come on with the multi-lateral integration project tracking of mining sites with the of application of drones tracking the earth moving equipment with the monetary device to determine at any point if there is an earth working equipment working at any particular point.”
