Zenator’s lawyers ordered to open defence

An Accra High Court has dismissed an application seeking to dismiss the suit challenging the eligibility of Zenator Rawlings to represent the NDC in the Klottey Korley constituency in the 2016 elections as parliamentary candidate.

The motion filed by lawyers for Zenator described the suit as premature and moot and also challenged the plaintiff’s capacity to bring the suit before the court.

In the ruling of the court, the judge Justice Kweku Ackaah Boafo said the motion was without basis and ordered Zenateor Rawlings and the NDC to open their defence in the matter.

Incumbent member of parliament for the Klottey Korley constituency Nii Ashitey and one Nii John Coleman who also lost in the primaries filed a suit praying the Court to prevent Dr Rawlings from holding herself out as parliamentary candidate-elect for the constituency on the ticket of the NDC.

In the suit the two say Zanetor Rawlings election was unlawful and wants the court to annul the November 21, 2015 primaries of the NDC in the constituency.

They joined the NDC and the Electoral Commission (EC) to the suit as first and third respondents respectively, with Dr Rawlings being the second.
