Zenator Still NDC Parliamentary Candidate – Koku Anyidoho

The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho says that even though Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle constituency’s name is not in the Voter Register, it does not mean she has been disqualified as being speculated by some media houses.

Speaking on the issue , this morning, the Deputy Chief Scribe of the NDC asserted that “what people are forgetting is that, the EC in every election year opens up the voter register for limited registration.”

According to him, this is to allow people like Dr. Zanetor to get their names on the voter register because the limited registration is not only meant for only for 18 year olds but it cuts across.

“In as much as the young lady does not have her name in the current voters register, the limited registration period will allow her to cure that ailment such that at the time the EC will be asking the political parties to formally and officially present their parliamentary candidates, she would have been a registered voter.”http://ghanapoliticsonline.com

He further said that it is nothing for anybody to jubilate as some current parliamentarians faced that problem but it was rectified when the voter register was opened for limited registration.

“Hence, Dr. Rawlings is not the only person with this issue but the limited registration exercise will allow her to cure that ailment but as to what the high court ruling will be, the party will have to comply so as not to incur any contempt of court.”

However, according to Mr. Anyidoho, “the EC only wrote upon the request of the court to give them information but EC never went ahead to say she has been disqualified.”

He concluded by saying that, as far as the NDC is concerned, the young lady and the party have not committed any crime as she has the time to rectify the issue.” He further clarified that when certain things like this does not breach the party’s constitution.
