Youth to demonstrate over suits against Zanetor

The youth of Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, will embark on a demonstration today [Tuesday] to protest against a suit filed against the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings.

Incumbent Member of Parliament, Nii Armah Ashittey and Nii John Coleman who were defeated by the new entrant Zanetor Rawlings in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries two months ago, are in court challenging her eligibility.

The two filed the suit just days after the court threw out an earlier one filed by some party members who were demanding a re-run of the primary.

Those aggrieved members were also challenging the eligibility of Zanetor Rawlings, claiming she was not eligible to contest as an MP because she is not a registered voter.

The leader for the group seeking to demonstrate the latest legal action, Samuel Constance Kweku, indicated that they will not tolerate attempts by Nii Amarh Ashietey to use the court to usurp their collective decision.

“We are sending a caution to the party hierarchy, we are informing General Mosquito to know that if the masses of Klottey Korle are yearning for Dr. Zanetor, they should back off our democratically elected aspirant who is going to contest and win this seat for us. We are sending it to the organizers, Kofi Adams and all others to sanction or call Nii Armah Ashietey to book before we take the law into our hands” Constance Kweku said.

Meanwhile, the daughter of former President Rawlings has described as unfortunate, what she says are attempts to strip the constituents of their choice.

“I don’t think some of the issues that are being raised are enough to overturn the choice of the people because we are living in a democracy and if you’ve had over 3,000 people voting in favour of something and then you go and try and use the law to usurp the people’s right to choose, I think that will be a grievous mistake but we are working on that nevertheless.”

Questions were raised when Dr. Zanetor Rawlings could not vote during the primary because her name was allegedly not found in the register that was used.av
