YOU CANNOT PUT A CROWN ON A CLOWN AND EXPECT A KING – HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF.

Disappointment, frustration and anger have taken over the land. Ghanaians who believed lies told them by Nana Addo, Dr Bawumia and their propagandists and ended up voting for him because of his over hyped messiah status are in for the greatest disappointment of their lives. The down side is that by the time they discover that the king has no clothes it will be too late. The best attribute of a leader is to define reality and give hope. Which was what John Mahama did his four years. History is now repeating itself in Ghana. Since electing Nana Addo as president one and a half years ago, things have gone bad with the economy suffering a negative growth. Prices have skyrocketed.

Investors have left Ghana, job losses and layoffs have increased geometrically, fuel stations continue to double their prices surreptitiously, corruption and impunity have found their feet. When Koku Anyidoho made his “HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF” statement, the President and his party mischievously misinterpreted what he meant. The Deputy General Security of the NDC didn’t mean anything harmful. He was comparing what happened under the Busia/Akufo-Addo administration to what we witnessing under the son of Edward Akufo-Addo (Nana Akufo-Addo) and why the Busia/Edward Akufo-Addo government was overthrown by the military. He was not calling for a military coup. The Akufo-Addo government cannot survive the 2020 trial and that was the message Koku rightly delivered to the President.

The father of the current President who was the ceremonial President in the second republic, commanded huge respect in the country because of his professional record, demeanor and command over the Queen’s language. He was a powerful orator and one of the finest legal brains during his time

The NLC regime appointed Edward Akufo-Addo, Busia and few others into the administration as advisors to give the administration a good image. Edward was a nice personality and spoke very well whenever he gets the opportunity to address the public. Politically, he suffered many bruises including the famous defeat he suffered when he contested for the Akwapim/New Juabeng seat. The general expectation when Busia and Edward Akufo-Addo took over was that Ghana was going to be the new Mecca because of what they said about Nkrumah, how they articulated their views, the promises they made, how they condemned the Nkrumah administration and how they downgraded the founder of the nation. If Ghanaians were not so forgetful, we would not now be saddled with the burdensome presidency of Akufo-Addo. In their first six months in office, the Busia/Edward Akufo-Addo administration took Ghana’s economy from bad to worse. Under them, our national debt rose unprecedentedly. Ghanaians had to queue for essential commodities. Raw materials and spare parts needed to keep factories running were scarce. Rather than create jobs, tens of thousands of workers lost their jobs. Inflation rose to the astronomical level. Lawyers and other professionals supported the administration because of the two leaders. But few months in office, the administration started harassing judges and could not avoid their clash with the judges in the famous Sallah case where Busia openly accused the judges of bias and partiality against his government. This culminated in his famous statement “No court can enforce any decision that seeks to compel the government to employ or deploy anymone”. In opposition he made all kinds of promises to workers through the TUC. When he took over power he repealed the Compulsory TUC membership law which led to the TUC shrink from 700,000 to 300,000. Busia, Edward Akufo-Addo, Victor Owusu and others successfully destroyed Nkrumah’s legacy and rubbished all his achievements. In 1971 they announced that there was a balance of payment problem for the already deteriorating economy. They vehemently protested against borrowing under Nkrumah..but in 1971, they accepted that external support in the form of loans was necessary to support their government. The acknowledgement of failure formed the basis of the policy of reformation within the framework of economic liberalisation that culminated in the exchange rate adjustment of about 42% by Dec 1971. Following heavy inflation, the TUC asked the administration to raise salaries of workers. Theye created a salary review commission but did not implement recommendations by the commission. Lawyers, judges, the journalists and other professionals who supported Busia and Edward Akufo-Addo, started attacking the administration. Editors of state newspapers who published articles against the administration were dismissed, workers who were identified as anti government were dismissed and citizens who openly condemned the administration were imprisoned. The aliens compliance order was introduced which led to seizure of properties of some innocent Ghanaians and foreigners who have lived in Ghana throughout. These were the issues that pushed Acheampong and his group to stage the 1972 coup. That coup received huge public support because of the mess Busia/Edward Akufo-Addo administration took Ghanaians through.

Ghanaians are going through same terrible situation under the son of Edward Akufo-Addo and that was the message Koku rightly pointed out on that programme which was mischievously misinterpreted just to get him into trouble.

What are we seeing under Akufo-Addo?

Businesses are closing down

Corruption has increased astronomically

Ghanaians are losing their jobs because the the bad economic policies of the administration

Innocent Ghanaians are being arrested and detained for condemning the administration

Nepotism has become a fashion

Impunity and open display of arrogance duly recognised as ethical

Dissipation of state resources

Acquisition of wealth across the globe.

Under the Mahama administration things were affordable and businesses were booming.

People were gainfully employed

No illegal arrest, media trial. Protesters were not beaten, arrested and detained.

Just like his father, Nana is blaming his predecessor for the massive corruption in his administration.

After its one and a half years of disastrous Akufo Addo presidency, only die-hard npp supporters can deny that Mahama’s warning has not come true. Most Ghanaians now realise they have been sold a fake bill of goods by Akufo Addo and the Npp.

It is more than abundantly clear that the Akufo Addo administration simply cannot be truthful. How can the government be poor, and at the same time waste $15 million on digital addressing system, spend Ghc 160 million on an anniversary, spend over $80million on expired drugs, attempted spending Ghc 800,000 on a website, pay $4million for the interoperability system when the previous administration agreed to spend only 300,000, sponsor President and family’s one week holidays in the UK, sponsor 196 people to the Untied States (UN), buy customised vehicles for use by the President and his appointees, appoint 110 ministers with over 1000 staffers.
