Woyome angrily accuses Amidu, Supreme Court of persecuting him (video)

Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has criticised the Supreme Court’s decision to allow former attorney general, Martin Amidu, to examine him over a GHC51 million judgement debt.

In a press conference shortly after the ruling on Wednesday, Woyome accused the Supreme Court of unlawfully persecuting him.

He said despite indicating to the court that he was in the process of paying GHC8 million of the debt to the Attorney General’s Department, the Supreme Court still went ahead with its ruling.

Woyome described the ruling as ridiculous and questioned how Amidu will enforce any decision the Supreme Court takes after the former AG examines him.

He asked whether Amidu will leave the enforcement to the AG or the court will cloak Amidu with enforcement power.

Woyome suggested that the AG’s department should resubmit its application to examine him instead of having Amidu do it.

The court’s decision to allow Amidu to examine Woyome followes a move by the AG’s office, led by the Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, to discontinue an oral examination of Mr Woyome, despite serving an earlier notice.
