I won’t take your support for granted – Mahama tells Krobos

He reiterated that the improvement of educational infrastructure in the area was key for his government, adding that the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, which is sited in the region, will focus on research to promote development in that part of Ghana.

“…We know majority of residents [here] are farmers and it will focus on research to help productivity,” Mr Mahama said during his “Accounting to the people’ tour in the Eastern region.

He thus promised to give locals their share of the national cake, and not to take their support for granted.

According to him, a rural electrification project scheduled for residents of Upper Manya district will take-off in August this year. He said the Electrification Project being rolled-out in the whole region is moving on steadily.

Addressing a gathering at Odumase Krobo as part of his tour in the region on Tuesday, 12 April 2016, the president said courtesy the Kpong water expansion project, potable water had been extended to the community and the surrounding areas.

Touching on the strides made by government in the Road sector, President Mahama said: “The road from Trom to Kpong is being constructed; we are also working on the town roads in both Odumase and Somanya. We have asked the contractor to speed up work on the Somanya to Kpong roads as well.”

President Mahama said government under the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) programme will expand training for the youth in the bid to create employment opportunities for the teeming youth.

In addition he said, two-storey girls’ dormitory block at Akro Senior High School (SHS) is under construction, while contractors are also working on a three-storey Boy’s dormitory at the Manya Krobo SHS, and several classroom blocks at Agormanya Junior High School (JHS), Yekuyem D. A. Primary School, among others.

In a speech read on his behalf, the paramount chief of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II, thanked the president for the projects in the area and appealed for the construction of some specific roads, which he said would boost commercial activity in the area.
