WikiLeaks- How America Assesses Nana Addo And The Use Of Narcotic Drugs

In a desperate effort to cast President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in very bad light before the Ghanaian people, NPP flagbearer, Mr. Akufo-Addo and his operatives have, in recent times, been relying heavily on documents that they claim has been made public by the whistle-blowing website, Wikileaks.

Interestingly, among the documents made public by Wikileaks are several intelligence reports and assessments of Mr. Akufo-Addo, just the same way that the documents that he and his people are relying on assessed Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and his colleague, Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby.

In one of the Intelligence reports released in September 2011 by former United States Ambassador to Ghana, Pamela Bridgewater, on the profile of NPP presidential aspirants ahead of the 2008 elections, Akufo-Addo was noted to have substituted the smoking of marijuana for his early morning breakfast.

The releases by the whistle blower website reported Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, as saying Nana Akufo-Addo did not just smoke a lot of the illegal herb, but smoke early in the morning to get high always.

In another of the reports, Dr. Kwesi Aning, another very-respected security analyst who is head of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Centre, was quoted to have admitted that Akufo-Addo had used drugs in his younger days, but that was now “under control.”
He added cryptically that “you can check with German intelligence on that.”

The above revelations came in the wake of the embassy’s own conclusions of the assessment of the character of the NPP presidential candidate, that he was arrogant, lacked organizational skills, was out of touch with the ordinary Ghanaian and has the reputation of being a chronic womanizer who occasionally experimented with marijuana.

With such a history, Akufo-Addo has opened a can full of worms, revealing a sordid past that gives the nation the opportunity to do an objective assessment of his character as a political leader.

To date, Akufo-Addo and his team have consistently sought to repudiate the US Intelligence assessment revealed by wikileaks and make the report out as an inaccurate assessment. Yet, when it comes to the same country’s assessment of Atef, Akufo-Addo and his people are salaciously asserting a belief in the veracity of the assessment report revealed by Wikileaks. Now that Nana Addo has decided to use leaked diplomatic information as the basis to condemn the President John Dramani Mahama,it is only fair that we subject him to the same test.
It is instructive to note that the then USA Ambassador to Ghana,Pamela Bridgewater had this to say about Nana Addo.

“Nana Akufo-Addo: An ethnic Akyem from the Eastern Region, Akufo-Addo is a formidable contender for the NPP slot. He is respected for his intelligence, political family background, and broad government experience, which includes tenures as Minister of Justice and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is reportedly backed by NPP youth and Akyem businessmen. On the other hand, he has poor organizational skills and often comes across as arrogant and formal, which may not play well with many party activists and Ghanaian voters. His reputation as a womanizer and occasional marijuana smoker may also damage him politically. ”
This is how the United States of America see him.
If this leaked diplomatic profile of Nana Addo is to be believed, then he is obviously not worthy to be President of Ghana.
In fact he will become the subject of Diplomatic blackmail which will be injurious to Ghana without more.
In the same diplomatic leaked cables, we were made to believe that the Germans have even more damning profile of Nana Addo.
There is no contrary profile by the USA on Nana Addo.
Is it fair to subject Nana Addo to the same test?
It is worthy of note that the two Gitmo detainees,were by the EXECUTIVE ORDER TASK FORCE Report 2010 classified as low risk,they were also cleared of any act of terrorism.
They were never tried or convicted.
They were the subject of arbitrary detention for 14 years.
