We Owe A Lot To Afari Gyan For Our Free & Fair 2015 Elections – Nigeria’s Former EC Boss

The immediate past Electoral Commissioner of Nigeria, Prof. Attahiru Jega has commended Dr. Afari Gyan for his immense contributions to Ghana’s and Nigeria’s elections.

Delivering a speech at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) 25th anniversary lecture in Accra, Prof. Jega applauded Dr. Afari Gyan for sharing his knowledge and experiences with the Nigeria Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) prior to the 2015 elections in the country.

According to him, Dr. Afari Gyan’s election consultancy to the Nigerian EC led to the much acclaimed free and fair 2015 elections in Nigeria.

He noted that despite the backlash that Dr. Afari Gyan received from the 2012 elections in Ghana; he however remains credible and the finest Electoral Commissioner in Africa.

Prof. Jega told the gathering that Nigeria owes an allegiance to Dr. Afari Gyan for the expert advice he gave the Commission prior to the elections.

We, in Nigeria, have a lot that we owe to Dr. Afari Gyan. No doubt he was the long-serving Electoral Commissioner in the continent of Africa. And no doubt, regardless of what may have happened in the last elections, he’s done a lot to restore stability in the electoral system in our country. And most importantly, we have learned a lot from listening to him, understanding the challenges he faced, how he addressed them and how we could do better than he had done.
