The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have trained the ‘violent’ supporters to besiege and take over government institutions.
According to him, Ghanaians must not be surprised by the violence being perpetrated by members of the NPP.
Angry youth believed to be sympathizers of the NPP stormed the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to be given some key installations of the facility.
The irate youth served notice demanding their share of national security jobs.
A group of men believed to members of the Invincible Forces also stormed the premises of the Passport Office in Accra demanding official information about the activities of the office, Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
Some young men also in Sagnarigu and Tamale attempted taking over the offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Northern Region.
The NPP youth also broke into rooms of occupants at the Kwame Nkrumah Flats at Laterbiokoshie
Asiedu Nketia commenting on the development said, “We warned Ghanaians that Nana Addo, as president, will foment chaos. This is the first transition that has a law to guide it, so, if Nana Addo as president cannot control his party people and security, then it says a lot about him. I believe he is aware of all that is happening.”
In an interview on Accra FM, he said, “Mass dismissals are now impossible during a transition process; you can’t ask people in public office to ‘proceed on leave’ just anyhow without recourse to the transitional law, they should also learn from former presidents Mills and Mahama who demonstrated tolerance towards public officers appointed by the previous government at the time they took office… They [NPP] should rein their boys in, otherwise Nana Addo will be held responsible for any chaos.”
