Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur Friday led a high powered government delegation to the burial and final funeral rites of Lieutenant Colonel E. K. T Donkor at Badu in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
The delegation included the Minister of Defence, Dr Benjamin Kumbuor, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku and former Minister of Power and MP for Pru East, Dr. Kwabena Donkor.
Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur paid a glowing tribute to the late Lt Col E K T Donkor when a delegation of the chiefs and people of the Badu Traditional area, led by the Omanhene Nana Boakye Yiadom, called on him at the Flagstaff House, to inform government about the demise and funeral arrangements of the late the late Minister and Ambassador.
He described him as a good friend, brother and colleague whom he had the opportunity to work with from the PNDC to the NDC days.
The Vice President said he was a very humble and forthright personality who served his nation very well in all the positions that he occupied.
He described his death as a great loss to the nation and the NDC fraternity.
The Ghana Armed Forces in a tribute said the varied nature of the appointments he held across most of the units, formations and headquarters of the Army is proof of his versatility and tenacity. Also, he was calm, intelligent and very resilient.
According to the Ghana Armed Forces, Lt Colonel E K T Donkor believed in the principle that everything is possible in life as long as one believed and worked towards it.
Lt. Colonel E K T Donkor was the Chief of Staff during the PNDC era from 1985 to 1989. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Defence from 1994 to1999.
Colonel E K T Donkor was later made the substantive Minister of Defence from 1999 to January, 2001.
In 2009, he was appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire until 2013.
From 2001, until his demise on July 13, 2016, Colonel E K T Donkor remained a member of the Council of Elders of the ruling NDC.
He was 77 and left behind a wife and three daughters.
