Veep Amissah-Arthur charges commercial drivers to report suspected trouble-rousers

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has appealed to commercial transport organisations and individual owners of vehicles and motorbikes to report to the police immediately people such as land guards and macho men board their vehicles or motorbikes and they suspect them of going to any polling station to cause confusion on December 7.

He said Ghana is too enlightened for some people to engage in ballot box snatching and this must not be tolerated anymore.

Addressing Odupong Kpehe branch of the GPRTU in Kasoa on the first day of his four-day campaign tour of the Central Region, Mr. Amissah-Arthur said the security agencies are ready to deal with such people.

Radio Ghana’s Seth Eyiah reports that Vice President Amissah-Arthur’s campaign which is dubbed: “Touching Base With The People”, is characterised by paying courtesy calls on traditional authorities and listening to their concerns, meeting party executives, engaging students and addressing mini rallies among others.

The first day of his campaign tour focused on Awutu Senya East and Gomoa East constituencies, where Dr. Nuhu Adams and Desmond De-Graft Paitoo are the NDC’s parliamentary candidates.

He introduced them to all the people that he met.

After paying courtesy calls on the chief of Odupong Kpehe and the Zongo chiefs, the Vice President interacted with the executives and members of the GPRTU at the Kasoa lorry station.

He said the phenomenon of election violence including snatching of ballot box must stop and the time is now.

He, therefore, appealed to the members of the commercial transport organisations and individuals to see it as a civic responsibility and report to the police any individual or group that will attempt to cause mayhem on the voting day.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur said these ballot box snatchers go to the polling stations on vehicles or on motorbikes, hence his appeal.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur said the construction and rehabilitation of roads has enabled drivers and vehicle owners to save money due to less vehicular traffic congestion and not frequently buying vehicle parts.

He appealed to commercial drivers especially to help spread the benefit they have derived from the improved road networks in the country, under President Mahama.

Addressing mini rallies at Gomoa Akotsi and Gomoa Dominase, Mr. Amissah-Arthur reminded the supporters of the NDC to go out in their numbers to vote massively for President Mahama and the party’s parliamentary candidates for a one touch victory.

He said the NDC is winning the election and therefore, urged the supporters to ignore any act of intimidation or walk away from any act of provocation or violence and focus only on voting for the NDC on December 7. Mr. Amissah-Arthur, who is also the Chairman of the Police Council and the Ghana Armed Forces Council said the security agencies are ready to deal with any situation which has the tendency to mar the day.

At Gyahadze in the Effutu constituency, Vice President Amissah-Arthur inaugurated a vocational training centre established by the constituency chairman, Odartey Lamptey, to train the youth especially young ladies in dress making, hair dressing, soap making, batik tie and dye and manicure and pedicure.

At the time of the Vice President’s visit some young ladies had been admitted and were undergoing training.
