UN Boss condemns “Horrific attack” at Florida club, killing least 50 dead
horrific attack” at a Florida nightclub on Sunday morning, which has been described as the worst mass-shooting incident in the recent history of the United States, has been condemned by the UN Secretary-General.
The UN chief Ban Ki-moon was unequivocal in his description of the attack in the city of Orlando, Florida, in the early hours of Sunday.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, he described it as a “horrific attack” and extended his “deepest condolences to the families of the victims.”
He also expressed his “solidarity with the Government and people of the United States.”
News reports say that at least 50 were killed and more than 50 injured, when a heavily-armed gunman took hostages inside a nightclub that was described as being popular with the LGBT community.
US President, Barack Obama, described the attack as “an act of terror and an act of hate” and said that Americans were united in “grief, outrage and resolve to defend our people.”
