Two GES officials arrested for illegally recruiting 100 teachers

Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has arrested two officials of the Ghana Education Service in the ongoing verification and validation exercise for the staff of GES.

The headmaster of the Adansi Anwiaso DA Junior High School Nana Ernest Appiah Antwi-Bosiako and the District Coordinator of the school Health Education Programme (SHEP), Robert Nyame are currently in the custody of the BNI for various roles they played in the recruitment of more than 100 teachers in the district from 2010 to 2012.

According to Monday’s edition of the Daily Graphic, Antwi Boasiako is alleged to have done the recruitment, demanding from the recruits charges ranging from GHC100 to GHC250 while Nyame charged GHC40 as processing fee.

BNI sources revealed to Daily Graphic that Nyame, after collecting the processing fee also charged the new teachers between GHc1,000 to GHC2,000 to input their data into the Integrated Payroll Personnel Database.

The report adds that Nyame has refunded the money paid by 70 of the affected teachers after he was busted.

Meanwhile, over 3, 000 names have so far been deleted from the government payroll after the validation and verification started.

The report indicates that those whose names have been deleted include personnel on retirement, those with fake certificates and those who had resigned or vacated their post and yet were still receiving salaries. By-Starrfmonlone.com
