Turkish Prez. Erdogan to address Ghana’s Parliament Tuesday

President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan would on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, address the Parliament of Ghana.

Mr. Erdogan is expected to speak on the bilateral relations between the two countries and the need to further deepen it for their mutual benefits.

He is also expected to brief Members on some progress made between the two countries on Cooperation in the areas of Military, Health and Medical Services, Air Services and Parliamentary relations among others.

Erdogan would further speak on the Ghanaian community in Turkey and vice versa and as well touch on trade between the two countries.

Bilateral trade volume between the two countries amounted to US$175million in 2009, and further reached US$290million in 2010, making Ghana the European country’s third largest trade partner in Sub-Saharan Africa after the Republic of South Africa and Nigeria.

Ghana and Turkey have a long-standing relationship with the two countries forming the “Ghana-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Association on March 21, 2011.

Erdogan’s address to the Parliament of Ghana would be the second by a Turkish President after H. E. Mr. Abdulllah Gül official visit to the West African nation in March 2011.

His visit would also be second in a month recorded by the former British Colony’s legislature this year.

In February, the Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Renzi, addressed the Ghanaian Parliament where he charged the leadership of the country to create employment opportunities for its citizens to end the dreadful voyage most of them embarked on in an attempt to enter Europe through countries in North Africa.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the 12th President of the Republic of Turkey. He has been in office since 2014. He previously severed as the Prime Minister from 2003 to 2014 and as the Mayor of Istanbul from 1994 to 1998.
