Tourism Authority Holds Health Screening At Kintampo As Part Of World Tourism Day

As part of the build up to the celebration of
World Tourism Day on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, Ghana Tourism Authority, (GTA) in collaboration with the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) organised a health screening and health walk at the Kintampo water falls park in the kintampo North Municipality in the Bono-Ahafo Region.

World Tourism Day is celebrated in September every year and Ghana regularly joins member states of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to celebrate the day.

Kintampo in the Bono-Ahafo Region is set to host the national event tomorrow.

The Health Screening and Walk consequently served as a precursor to the main event.

It started with the Walk which went through the principal streets of Kintampo before the participants converged on the Kintampo waterfalls park for the health screening.

The event also featured cultural dance displays mostly from the Northern Region and an exhibition.

This year’s celebration is under the theme “Tourism for All, Promoting Universal Accessibility”.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the SADA Board, Alhaji Adams Sullai, said the Tourism; Culture and Creative Arts sectors contribute significantly to wealth and job creation and present enormous opportunities for the country.

According to him, statistics from the Ghana Tourism Authority for 2014 showed that the SADA Zone attracted less than five percent of domestic and international tourists which visited, sites in the country.

Alhaji Adams stressed that the 25 year SADA master plan includes concrete strategies for making the SADA zone the preferred tourism destination in the country and the West African sub region as a whole.

He added that SADA will work with the Tourism Ministry and other Stakeholders to improve tourism infrastructure and quality of service delivery within the SADA zone to create jobs and business opportunities for the youth.

For her part, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare said the collaboration with SADA will promote tourism in the country and in particular the various Tourist sites to boost economic growth.

The Board Chairman of Kintampo Waterfalls, Griffiths Owusu made an appeal to the government to aggressively woo investors to support the development of the Kintampo and Fuller Waterfalls.
