Thieves break into EC’s office

Some thieves have allegedly broken into and stolen electrical cables from the offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) at Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region.
According to EC officials, the incident occurred over the weekend.

The Deputy Returning Officer of the EC in Berekum, PK Ofori Kyeremeh, who narrated the incident to Accra FM said: “When we came to the office today, we realised the lights were off. We thought it was the prepaid credit that was finished and so we tried to top up. When we attempted, we realised the cables connected to the meter had been removed. In fact they had been stolen.”

He added that the incident has been reported to Berekum police for investigations.
There are already fears that such actions, if not checked, could create problems for the upcoming December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
