Taxi drivers cry as Gas shortage hit the Tamale Metropolis.

Thousands of taxi drivers within the Tamale metropolis and some other parts of the Northern Region are crying over the shortage of Liquefied petroleum gas, LPG that has hit the metropolis and some parts of the region. Some aggrieved drivers who spoke to Nyankonton Mu Nsem explained that the gas is very economical so they chose to use that to fuel their taxis and now that the LPG is not in the region, they have no choice than to pack their taxis.

“The petrol is costly, so I changed to gas but now there is shortage and I can’t get to buy it anywhere so I have packed my taxi for about a week now”.

He lamented. One taxi driver who gave his only as Mustafa alleged that the suppliers are intentionally keeping the gas just to increase the price afterwards. But this he has warned that, they the taxi drivers will resist any increment by either their suppliers of the government.

The shortage of the gas hit the Tamale Metropolis for almost a fortnight and has affected most business activities within the metropolis especially taxis and restaurant but there are no signs of getting the LPG anytime soon. Meanwhile, most households have also affected by this shortage and are compelled to now go back to the use of charcoal or firewood. The drivers as well as the households have appealed to the government to intervene so as to enable them go about with their normal activities.
