Tamale airport upgrade will enhance development of Northern Ghana – Minister

The Minister of Transport, Fiifi Kwetey, says the expansion and upgrade of the Tamale Aerodrome into an International airport is to facilitate the development of the three regions of the North and in particular airlift pilgrims directly from Tamale to Mecca.

He said the first phase of the project which is in compliance with International Civil Aviation requirement cost $130 million.

Mr. Kwetey said the aviation industry is a promising industry for Ghana and therefore called on those in the sector to improve on their service delivery.

Mr. Kwetey also appealed to traditional authorities to assist the Ghana Airports Company to stop encroachment on the airport lands.
